50ml of Sober Spirits Gin 0.0%
8 fresh basil leaves
15ml of agave syrup
1 half lime, juiced
Ice

How to do it

In a shaker, gently muddle a handful of fresh basil leaves with the juice of half a lime. This process bruises the basil leaves, releasing their aromatic oils.

 

Pour 50ml of Sober Spirits G 0.0% into the shaker and then add agave syrup. This will balance the acidity of the lime and the herbal notes of the basil.

 

Fill the shaker with ice cubes shake the mixture vigorously. This not only chills the drink but also helps to further infuse the basil flavor into the liquid.

 

Strain the mixture into a glass filled with fresh ice cubes. Straining prevents the basil leaves from entering the drink while ensuring the flavor is imparted.

 

Garnish with a basil leaf or a lime wheel for an added touch of elegance.

Bartender tips

This cocktail should have a translucent green color. The more intense the color, the more the delicious basil notes will be present.


If you don't have a shaker, use an empty jam jar or equivalent for the best mix.

Origins of the cocktail

The Gin Basil Smash was created in 2008 by Jörg Meyer at the "Le Lion Bar de Paris" in Hamburg, Germany. Inspired by the classic Whiskey Smash, this cocktail replaces bourbon with gin and mint with fresh basil, creating a refreshing and aromatic blend.
